I’m a self-confessed colourful trainer fanatic, and my latest discovery has got me swapping my beloved £95 Adidas Gazelles for a £34 pair of Pumas that check all the boxes
If there’s one pair of trainers that my wardrobe wouldn’t feel complete without, it’s a pair of Adidas Gazelles. For me, they’re the perfect footwear; colourful, comfortable and easy to style.
That was until I stumbled upon the Puma Palermo trainers, which have all the hallmarks of my usual go-to footwear, but with one added bonus – the price tag. Whilst my beloved Gazelles usually set me back somewhere around £95, the Puma Palermos are slightly more reasonably priced at £75 – that was until Schuh launched a major January sale and slashed them to an even more affordable price – starting at £34.

The huge discount is across most of the Puma Palermo colourways, although sale prices vary between £22.99 and £49.99 (and there are some colourways that are still full price at £75). The £23 price applies to the kids’ sizes, which only run to a UK1 or UK2, but if you head to the youth section, you’ll find a £33.99 pair that go all the way to an adult’s UK5.
This sneaky bargain sees the trainers dropped from their usual £55 price tag, which is still considerably cheaper than a pair of my favourite Adidas Gazelles, and is ideal if your feet are a UK5 and under. If you need a bigger size don’t despair, though, because the adult sizes are also discounted from £75 to £39.99 in several different colour options.
I’ve been wearing my turquoise pair of Puma Palermo trainers (now reduced to £44.99 from £75) for a few months now and can happily say they’re every bit as comfortable as my Gazelles. They have great support, the suede outers are soft without being too flimsy, and the soles are grippy and flexible.
I’ve worn them everywhere from the city to the desert and they’ve held up great, and I’ve yet to get a blister or rub from them, even during their first outing. Consider me a major Puma convert!
If Adidas Gazelles still have your heart though, now is the time to get your hands on a pair as plenty of places have them discounted. ASOS has several pairs on offer right now, whilst JD Sports has also been slashing the price of them across men’s, women’s and children’s.
Alternatively, M&S has also discounted a pair of celeb-loved colourful trainers; the Hoff Barcelonas. Sienna Miller was spotted recently wearing the Bangkok style, which have been selling out rapidly and are currently only available in a select few sizes on sites where they’re on sale.
However, over at M&S, Sienna’s exact Bangkok ones are available in all sizes if you’re happy to pay full price (£109.50). For those looking for a little more of a bargain, M&S also has other colourways on sale, including the Barcelona style, which have a more muted, pastel-hued block colouring. Usually priced at £109.50, they’re currently reduced to £65, and still available in sizes 3 to 5.
