‘Honestly, these wearable hot water bottles have been a life saver for me’
While many people swear by a hot water bottle to ease period cramps, it can be annoying to carry a traditional one around. However, Wuka – a UK-based period health brand – has a wearable hot water bottle that fastens around the waist for soothing warmth on the go.
Wuka’s Wearable Hot Water Bottle costs £29.99 and provides wrap-around relief whether users are lounging around the house or have to brave the morning commute while dealing with period pain. It is 77cm long – said to be the longest there is – and even comes with a pocket to keep hands warm or to hold phones and other personal items.
Covered with a super soft fleece, it has a tie fastening for security and an ultra-long water bottle that is designed to wrap around the body. It can be used on the tummy or back, to help ease all kinds of pain, and is made from natural rubber, which means it unfortunately isn’t suitable for those with a latex allergy.
Plus, it’s machine washable at 40 degrees Celcius, and can be air dried inside out. It should be stored empty and away from direct sunlight, and filled with hot but not boiling water to about two-thirds capacity for safety.
Wuka has a wide range of period care products aside from the hot water bottle. For example, there’s a Period Starter Kit for teens which is currently £34.99 down from £45.95 for the set with one pair of period underwear, or £59.99 down from £75.95 for the three-pack.
Wuka Wearable Hot Water Bottle
The Wuka Wearable Hot Water Bottle is said to be great for easing period cramps
Along with the Teen Stretch Seamless Period Underwear with up to 12 hours of leak proof protection, the kit contains a two-pocket changing bag to keep clean and used underwear separate on the go, a soothing Heat Patch, a pack of 20 intimate wipes, Sophie Elkan’s Girls’ Guide to Growing Up Great book, and a period-positive sticker set to boost teens’ mood.
Grown-ups don’t need to miss out, though, as there’s also the Wuka Go Bag – containing two Stretch Midi Period Pants, a pack of Wuka Wipes, and a double-pocket changing bag for £39.99 down from £47.96. The pants are reusable for up to two years, and should be rinsed before washing at 40 degrees Celsius and air dried inside out.
If shoppers would like an alternative long water bottle, they could try The Body Hot Water Bottle By YUYU from Argos, which costs £30. With a grey polka dot design, this one can be tied around the tummy and measures 75cm long.
Over at Amazon, there’s the Wearable Hot Water Bottle Belt for £37.99 which has winged arms with velcro fastenings and can be worn on the front or back. It’s said to fit adults who wear a UK size 6 to 20 and has a soft, fluffy cover.
However, shoppers are full of praise for the Wuka Wearable Hot Water Bottle. One said: “This hot water bottle is a lifesaver. It helps with bloat and discomfort, just tie it on wherever you need it to be. Highly recommend, amazing concept well executed.”
Another said: “This hot water bottle style is just amazing, it is so nice to wear a hot water bottle without using hands, plus the flexibility and extra coverage when areas are sore is amazing. Definitely a must have, I also don’t mind how you fill it up, it’s alright! 5/5.”
However, one shopper found it didn’t fit them: “It works and nice and soft. But too small for my belly so not really wearable for me as I’m a size 14.”
Another said: “I am very pleased with the wearable hot water bottle and I really like being able to tuck my hands in the front pouch. I do find the ties a bit tricky but I see myself using it regularly especially as we head into winter.”
Most users found it helpful, including one shopper who said: “I have endometriosis and honestly these wearable hot water bottles have been a life saver for me. I pretty much wear it almost all day. They are just so clever. Thank you WUKA for starting to sell these.”
