‘This stuff is a miracle product I use it on own without moisturiser after cleansing and my skin is in brilliant condition, so good I’m on my second jar’
We all know that SPF should be a non-negotiable in our skincare routine, to be worn on a daily basis – even if the weather doesn’t look like it warrants it. But according to a YouGov survey of 2,081 people in the UK, reports SOS Serum Skincare, 45% don’t apply SPF daily or most days, compared to the 23% that rank it as the most important step.
This is because daily UV exposure plays a huge part in premature ageing, contributing to hyperpigmentation as well as long-term skin damage. Although SPF is one product dermatologists agree should never be skipped, many tend to do so as people with particularly reactive, sensitive or acne-prone skin find that their complexion can breakout spots, or even itch and burn when applying it.
This is because sensitive skin has a lower tolerance for common ingredients found in many formulas such as chemical UV filters, fragrance and alcohol. Speaking about this, skincare expert, Chartered Scientist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Bruce Green, explains: “When it comes to SPF for sensitive skin, simplicity and protection are key.
“You’ll want to look for a broad-spectrum SPF to ensure you’re shielded from both UVA and UVB rays, and ideally a mineral-based formula using ingredients like zinc oxide. These physical filters are generally better tolerated by sensitive skin types, as they sit on the surface and reflect UV rays rather than absorbing them, which reduces the risk of irritation.”
As Bruce added: “A good sensitive-skin SPF should feel like skincare – gentle, protective and supportive of your skin barrier, without clogging pores or causing flare-ups.” With that in mind, one brand has been quietly gaining traction for its skincare-like SPF formula and has had the approval from those who suffer from skin-conditions like eczema.

The SOS Serum Skincare’s SOS SPF 50 Sun Cream is loved for its sensitive-skin-friendly formula.
The SOS Serum Skincare’s SOS SPF 50 Sun Cream is a mineral-based formula that’s been crafted with sensitive skin at its forefront and is concocted with ultra-sheer zinc oxide, providing broad-spectrum protection, alongside Vitamin E and soybean stem cells, which work to soothe and support the skin, while firming, hydrating and fight free-radicals on the skin.
One user shared their experience and said: “Honestly… Wow. I have severe facial eczema and my skin is also prone to spots when pores are clogged, and this is the only suncream I’ve ever found not to aggravate my skin nor leave me with angry pimples.”
Ranging in sizes 15ml (£5.50) to 500ml (£76), the SOS Serum Skincare’s SOS SPF 50 Sun Cream is a moisturising lotion that is fragrance free and is suitable for use on both the body and face. For those who’d rather keep their suncare for the body and face separate, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Sun Protection Invisible SPF50+ Face Mist (£15.20, Lookfantastic) is loved for is lightweight formula that is easy to apply and offers UVA/UVB protection for oily and blemish-prone skin types..
Elsewhere, BYOMA’s Ultralight Face Fluid SPF50 is £15 at Space NK and helps to hydrate and soothe skin while working to strengthen the skin barrier and protect it from UVA and UVB rays.
Made with thin-film technology, a little pump of the SOS Serum Skincare cream reportedly goes a long way, and – unlike many typical suncreams – it has an ultra-sheer formula, meaning users shouldn’t experience the classic white cast that often comes with application.
The cream from SOS Serum Skincare is also available at Amazon and has a 4.6 star rating, with one user noting: “This stuff is a miracle product I use it on own without moisturiser after cleansing and my skin is in brilliant condition, so good I’m on my second jar, and will continue with this now forever.”
Someone else added: “Saw a YouTuber talking about this spf/moisturiser and I’ve been thinking that I should take better care of my skin and wear SPF all-year round. She was raving about it and the price was great so I decided to give it a go. Omg I love it! I can be a bit lazy with skincare, and if there is any ‘downside’ I quickly start to forget to put it on (like it makes your hands messy or it smells weird).
“This ticks every box. It feels so lovely going on and has really helped the dry flakey skin I was getting on my cheeks. It has a soft pleasant smell. It absorbs really well and really quickly into skin so you can move on to make up and your hands don’t feel like they are covered and sticky.”
A third added: “This is my absolute favourite spf EVER. I’ve repurchased several times. I have sensitive rosacea skin and it never irritates me. It’s perfect for summer to use as a moisturiser and spf, as the consistency is moisturising but not too thick. Never pills either and no white cast (although I do have pale skin).”
While most people found this suncream to be pretty game changing, some found that it didn’t work quite as well under makeup, with one person sharing how it ‘pilled’ underneath. They said: “Depending on how much skincare you use under it, it can pill. also not the best for use under eye makeup as it made my concealer crease. But as an SPF in general, it has 0 white cast and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin, and it is quite moisturizing.” So keep that in mind.
However, another person said: “Honestly it’s the best 50 factor sun protection cream I’ve ever used. It’s so light and fluid, non sticky at all and lovely texture. It’s a life changer for me as I hated all the thick sun creams that leaves white colour on the skin. Love love love this one.”
