A 15-year-old girl was viciously raped in a horrific attack outdoors earlier this year as she pleaded for help from people passing by.
The traumatised teen was lured into a “den-type” area in parkland in Leamington Spa in May where she was pounced on by two teenage boys, both aged 17. During the attack, Warwick Crown Court heard how the terrified victim begged a female passer-by for help – but the woman did not come to her aid.
Two teenagers have been now sentenced to youth detention terms of 10 years and eight months and nine years and 10 months respectively for the “horrific” rape of a teenage girl. A judge took the unusual decision of lifted reporting restrictions protecting the identities of Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal.
Judge Sylvia de Bertodano accepted that keeping existing restrictions in place could lead to speculation which might see innocent people being targeted after applications to name were made by four media organisations.
“A lack of information stokes public anger and leads to the unchecked spread of false information,” the judge said.
Opening the facts of the case against Jahanzeb and Niazal on Monday – who both pleaded guilty at a hearing at Coventry youth court in October – prosecutor Shawn Williams said both defendants were unaccompanied child asylum seekers.
Both defendants were committed to the Crown Court for sentence, each appearing in the dock and assisted by their own interpreter.
