Qazi Mohammed told the girl ‘me and you are secret’ after sending her an explicit photo of himself before taking an ‘upskirt’ image of the pupil without her knowledge
A predatory teaching assistant sent an indecent photo to a teenage girl before “upskirting” her while his wife was at home pregnant.
Qazi Mohammed admitted causing a child to watch a sexual act when he was working at the school in Bradford, Yorkshire. Mohammed, who was 21 when he committed the offences in 2024, was also found guilty of voyeurism at a trial at Bradford Crown Court.
The jury heard how he took the girl’s phone and added his username to her SnapChat account. The full details of his offending and the name of the school cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of his “vulnerable” victim.
He then begun messaging her and sent her an indecent photograph of himself. Mohammed also sent a message saying “me and you are secret” with a heart emoji. Prosecutor Ella Embleton-Brown said Mohammed also took a photograph of the girl’s crotch area and underwear without her knowledge.
Mrs Embleton-Brown said the girl was upset when he sent her that image later and she confronted Mohammed about it, YorkshireLive report. Mohammed, who had no previous convictions and is now 23, was arrested back in 2024, but answered no comment to police questions about the allegations.
In a victim personal statement the complainant said Mohammed had chosen to take advantage of her when she was at her most vulnerable. She said he had used his position and power for his own selfish needs.
As well as being jailed for 16 months for the offences Mohammed must now register as a sex offender with the police for the next 10 years and comply with the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Barrister Deborah Smithies, for Mohammed, said a number of references had been uploaded and they indicated that the offending was “out of character” and surprising.
The Honorary Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Rose said Mohammed had told a probation officer that the offences were committed at a time when he was “struggling in the workplace.” But the judge said he agreed with an assessment that Mohammed posed a high risk of serious harm to children.
He said when Mohammed added himself to the complainant’s SnapChat account that was part of a scheme to groom her for sexual purposes. Judge Rose said he “upskirting” photo of the girl’s underwear was for Mohammed’s own sexual gratification and without her knowledge.
