Featuring Kate Moss and Kendall Jenner, Burberry have launched a set of stunning images – stars of film, music, sport and fashion all dressed to impress in their iconic trench coat

For 170 years, Burberry has been at the height of style. And to celebrate the milestone anniversary, the heritage British fashion brand has unveiled ‘The Trench, Portraits of an Icon’ – a global campaign featuring a set of stunning images, with 23 legends from film, music, sport and fashion all dressed to impress in Burberry’s iconic trench coat.

Invented by brand founder Thomas Burberry in 1879, the Burberry trench coat was designed to protect against all weather conditions and made from gabardine, an innovative fabric that transformed rainwear. In the stunning new photographs, supermodel and Brit icon Kate Moss, a long time fan of Burberry, can be seen posed up in a classic coat. Often pictured clad in the brand, the 52-year-old was snapped back in 2015 dressed in top to toe Burberry at the brand’s London Fashion Week event.

Also starring in the new Icons campaign, reality star and supermodel Kendal Jenner, 30, dons a trench for some sultry snaps; model Rosie Huntington Whitely takes cover under a Burberry check umbrella; Normal People actor Daisy Edgar Jones looks effortlessly cool and Arsenal footballer Eberechi Eze looks razor sharp.

Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Daniel Lee says of the campaign: “To celebrate the Burberry trench, an icon of British style and fashion, we invited friends from across the creative world to bring it to life.” The portraits, photographed by Tim Walker, also feature Agyness Deyn, Hikaru Utada, Kid Cudi, Kristin Scott, Little Simz, Matthew Macfayden, Teyana Taylor and more.

The Burberry trench has been a style staple since its inception, and is instantly recognisable on both the street and on celebrities. King Charles wore his Burberry trench coat back in 1983, matching it with the late Princess Diana, while on holiday together in Nova Scotia. Later, keeping it in the family, in 2011, Catherine, Princess of Wales, wore her trench on a royal visit to Belfast with Prince William.

Worn by rock royalty too, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher wore his Burberry trench to the brand’s London Fashion Week show back in 2018. Earlier this year, his sons Lennon and Gene said Definitely Maybe to the brand too, each wearing Burberry’s iconic check print to the most recent catwalk show.

As Burberry marks its 170th anniversary, the new campaign signals a year-long celebration of the house’s archive and history, honouring the legacy that continues to shape its present and future. Joshua Schulman, Chief Executive Officer of Burberry says: “The Burberry trench coat stands as one of the most iconic signifiers of our brand, and this campaign tells its timeless story – a story rooted in the craftsmanship, innovation and authenticity that have defined us for 170 years. It celebrates Burberry’s enduring global resonance through a design deeply woven into British style and culture, inspiring people across generations to express their individuality while remaining unmistakably Burberry.”
