To celebrate its birthday, Surfshark has rolled out a limited-time discount on its VPN plans – ideal for travellers
Cybersecurity brand Surfshark is celebrating its birthday with a massive sale that’s seen discounts of 88% off VPN plans. Surfshark’s VPN now starts at £1.49 per month as it’s dropped from £331.83 to £40.23 for the first 27 months.
A VPN is a must-have for travellers wanting to keep their data private and secure from around the globe. It’s also perfect for unblocking UK-specific websites and services like BBC iPlayer, ensuring you don’t miss out on any sports action due to tracking or censorship.
A VPN – or virtual private network – safeguards user privacy by encrypting data from devices such as smartphones or computers. It can also alter a device’s IP address to anywhere in the world using any one of Surfshark’s more than 3,200 servers, located in 100 countries including the US, UK, Australia and in Europe.

For a discounted price of £1.49, the Surfshark Starter plan offers 27 months of access, including a bonus three-month period. This package includes a secure VPN, ad and cookie pop-up blockers, a constantly changing IP address, and the ability to use it on unlimited devices at the same time, reports the Express.
The company also provides round-the-clock customer support via live chat or email, but it’s worth noting the Starter plan does not include antivirus protection. This feature, along with others, is included in the £1.89 Surfshark One plan.

Surfshark has slashed up to 88% off its VPN plans, offering 27 months’ access for £1.49 per month.
This multifunctional package comes packed with a full suite of security features, offering 27 months of VPN, antivirus, alert, search and alternative ID services. In addition to the benefits of the Surfshark Starter plan, this package can detect and remove viruses and malware in real time, prevent ad companies and bots from tracking online activity and send alerts if an email address appears in breached online databases.
It can also monitor credit cards and perform private web searches without leaving any digital footprints. Surfshark competes with the likes of NordVPN, which boasts more than double the number of servers but is also pricier at £2.39 per month for its Basic plan.
ExpressVPN is another option, touted as being easier to use than other services but also more expensive at £4.04 for its 24-month plan. Daily Express tech writer Chris Hall compared the three services and was impressed by Surfshark’s ‘great value’ and the ability to use it across several devices.
He said: “Surfshark offers great value for money, and that’s one of the big attractions. It’s actually owned by the people behind NordVPN, but this is their budget offering – not that the features are lacking.
“There are apps for a wide range of devices, but Surfshark doesn’t put a limit on the number of devices on the same contract, so you can sign in across all your devices, making sure your whole family is protected.”
However, Chris also mentioned a possible drawback, noting: “Surfshark has fewer servers than some of its rivals and can sometimes be a little slower, but unless you’re moving huge amounts of data around, that’s unlikely to be a problem.”
Over on Trustpilot, Surfshark boasts a 4.4-star rating from customers, many of whom have praised the firm’s customer service. One review said: “So nice to talk to a human when tech issues arise.”
Not everyone seems convinced though, as another review said: “It has trouble connecting on my iPhone 12. Ok on iPad but seems to slow everything down.” Nevertheless, a satisfied long-term user said: “I’ve been a customer for over three years. Surfshark is simple, intuitive and very efficient.”
