Brits are in for a drenching as new yellow weather warnings issued by the Met Office warn of heavy rain for parts of the UK in the and extreme wind set to batter the country in the coming days
Storm Bram has officially been named by Met Éireann as Brits batten down the hatches ahead of a spell of severe weather.
Today, yellow weather warnings have been issued for both wind and rain with parts of the UK forecast to be slammed with 85mph winds in the coming days.
Forecasters at the Met Office issued the warnings today, with people told to be aware of a risk of floods and high winds. In some areas as much as 20-30 mm of rain is expected to fall in a 4-6 hour period while some places may see 40 mm.
The first of the weather warnings come into force this afternoon with disruption expected to last until Wednesday. Areas of Wales as well as south west England are expected to see persistent and heavy outbreaks rain from 6pm today.
A yellow warning is in place for the region for 24 hours with forecasters warning: “accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in quite a few places, with 60-80 mm over Dartmoor and high ground in Wales. There is a small chance of 80-100 mm falling over the most exposed, prone hills.
“Given the saturated nature of the ground, this is likely to lead to some flooding in places and transport disruption. Rain will also be accompanied by strengthening southerly winds, which may exacerbate impacts.”
