If you don’t own a drop-waist dress, you’re going to want to invest in one
Drop-waist dresses are set to be one of the most flattering silhouettes of spring 2026. Defined by a waistline that sits lower on the hips rather than the natural waist, the shape creates a longer, leaner line through the body while skimming over areas many people prefer not to highlight. After seasons dominated by tightly cinched waists and body-hugging fits, the softer, lengthened proportions feel refreshingly easy and comfortable to wear.
By drawing the eye downward, the style elongates the torso and creates a smooth line through the hips, giving the dress a relaxed, but still put-together, feel. From minimalist column styles to fuller skirts with a dropped seam, it’s shaping up to be the dress trend that defines the new season.
One high-street example that captures the trend perfectly, and is flying off shelves despite only just dropping, is the Cotton Blend Contrast Midi Drop Waist Dress from Marks & Spencer. Priced at around £46, it combines a fitted sleeveless bodice with a fuller cotton skirt that drops lower on the hips, creating that elongated silhouette drop-waist styles are known for.

The top half has a little stretch and a clean crew neckline, while the skirt adds movement and shape without feeling overly structured or stuffy.
Elsewhere, the high street has plenty of other offerings when it comes to drop-waist dresses. Over on ASOS, you can find the high-neck shirred poplin maxi dress with dropped waist in deep olive, £45. Made from crisp cotton poplin, it features a softly shirred bodice, cap sleeves and a high neckline before falling into a loose maxi skirt from the dropped seam, creating that long, streamlined shape the trend is known for. The deep olive shade also makes it feel a little more elevated than a classic black dress, while still being easy to style with sandals or trainers for spring.
You can also shop Topshop’s dropped waist full circle hem midi dress in navy check on ASOS, priced at £55. With a textured woven fabric, it features a sleeveless, round-neck bodice before falling into a dropped waist and dramatic full circle skirt that gives the dress plenty of movement. The navy check pattern keeps it classic and easy to style, while the longer midi length and relaxed fit make it feel polished enough for both work and weekend plans.
Finally, on a similar theme to M&S’ monochrome buy, Nobody’s Child’s Black And White Bandeau Drop Waist Sienna Midi Dress is in a huge sale, reduced from £150 to £60. The strapless black velvet bodice contrasts with a flowing white satin skirt, creating a sharp monochrome look while still keeping the relaxed proportions that make the silhouette so flattering. The dropped seam falls into a soft A-line skirt for a classic fit-and-flare shape that moves easily and skims the body
