British Airways has cancelled 25 departures and 27 arrivals scheduled to operate at London Heathrow airport today as 99mph winds batter Britain

Further travel chaos has gripped the UK as more than 50 flights in an out of London were grounded and runways in Birmingham were closed.

British Airways has cancelled 25 departures and 27 arrivals scheduled to operate at London Heathrow airport on Friday. The vast majority of affected flights were on short-haul routes.

Birmingham Airport said at 5.20am on Friday it was completing safety checks after operations were suspended with heavy snow on the runway. A number of flights were shelved at Liverpool John Lennon Airport yesterday as passengers hoping to fly today await updates this morning.
