Sir Chris Hoy has shared an inspirational message about his cancer diagnosis
Sir Chris Hoy has issued an inspiring message after being named the headline speaker at an upcoming leadership summit. The Olympic legend has been announced as part of the lineup for The Calling event, which is set to take place in Glasgow.
The summit was created by businessman Peter Vardy and will be produced by The Peter Vardy Foundation. The Calling will be hosted at the SEC Armadillo on Friday, October 2, where Hoy will discuss how he has used leadership, both on and off the cycling track.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist and 11-time world champion is one of the greatest cyclists of his generation. However, the 49-year-old was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in 2023 and confirmed his condition was terminal the following year.
Despite being told he had between two and four years to live, Hoy has continued to be an inspiration to many. He has since raised millions of pounds for charity through various events and showed the strength of his character when discussing his diagnosis.

Upon being announced for The Calling event, Hoy said: “Leadership is about how you respond when things don’t go to plan. Over the past two years I’ve had to reflect on what really matters and how you show up for the people around you.

“I’ve learned that resilience isn’t pretending everything is fine. It’s about facing reality and choosing your response. If sharing my experience helps someone else find strength or perspective in their own challenges, then that’s something positive.”
Hoy will be joined at The Calling by TV presenter Dan Walker, who will host the summit, and is one of several speakers, including author Jon Acuff and Dr Jo Salter MBE, Britain’s first female fast jet pilot.
The Calling website describes the event’s purpose as being “to inspire and equip people who lead.” Vardy was delighted to confirm Hoy as the headline speaker and shared his admiration for the cyclist.

“Securing Sir Chris firmly puts this event on the map,” Vardy said. “When we first set out to create this conference, he was the first name on the list, as he is someone I have boundless respect for.
“He is a leader in every sense of the word, representing excellence, resilience and humility in equal measure. He has performed at the very highest level in sport, but I also admire the life he has built beyond competition, creating real impact through everything he does.”
He added: “Sir Chris has inspired a generation through his achievements on the track, and he continues to inspire through the way he faces challenges with honesty and strength. We are honoured that he will headline the event.”
Last month, Hoy shared that he had been able to get back on his bike after recovering from a badly broken leg. The Olympic icon suffered injuries in a horrific crash while out on his mountain bike in December.
