Police helicopter and divers have reportedly been seen at Llyn Geirionydd after a man went missing at the 45-acre lake on the slopes of the Carneddau mountains in Snowdonia
Police are still searching for a man who went missing at a lake yesterday with police divers and helicopters reportedly joining the hunt.
The alarm was raised on Sunday evening at Llyn Geirionydd, a 45-acre lake nestled on the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains in Snowdonia, Wales.
The alarm was raised at approximately 7.10pm with emergency services called to the lake. North Wales Police has confirmed that, despite searches conducted throughout the night, the man has yet to be found. His family has been notified.
Search efforts are set to continue at the lake, the force said, with an “increased emergency service presence” amid the ongoing search operation.
Locals reported seeing a helicopter circling the lake at around 8pm. Meanwhile one witness described a “significant emergency response” and another said police divers were at the scene.
The body of a 21-year-old man was recovered from the lake just 11 days ago. Llyn Geirionydd is a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts. The lake draws kayakers to its waters and holds the distinction of being the only lake within Eryri National Park where speedboats are permitted, reports North Wales Live.
North Wales Police is urging members of the public to stay clear of the lake while the search continues. A spokesperson said: “Immediate family have been informed and are being supported.
“We ask members of the public to avoid the area today to allow emergency services to continue their work.
“Anybody who was at the lake yesterday evening who hasn’t already spoken to police should contact us.”
