Aldi has caused a divide just before Christmas with one of its newest products. The supermarket usually brings plenty of festive treats out this time of year – but some think this could be going too far.
Shoppers spotted two new festive takes on the classic Mayonnaise condiment – Cranberry Mayonnaise and Sage and Onion Stuffing Mayonnaise. Each 250g jar costs £1.29.
Aldi’s Bramwells Cranberry Mayonnaise offers mayo was deemed the “ultimate gravy alternative on Christmas Day” by the supermarket, offering a “creamy take on the traditional sweet and tangy sauce”. Meanwhile, the Sage and Onion Stuffing mayo brings a “delicious twist on tradition”.
One person shared the products on Facebook when these sauces hit the shelves. Daniel, who runs the Snack Finds and Reviews group, showed both jars to his 377,000 members – and some had plenty to say.
One wrote: “Why do they have to mess about with traditional ingredients at Christmas time when they work perfectly well as they are all year?” Another commented: “Not sure how I feel about this?”
A third said: “They’ve sullied my beloved mayonnaise!” Another simply claimed: “Vile!” But, some were quite keen to try them.
Someone said: “Ooohhh yum sage and onion!” Another added: “The cranberry one actually sounds quite nice tbf!”
It’s not the first time this Christmas that a supermarket has divided the nation with nothing but a jar of sauce. Recently, Asda unleashed a roast potato-flavoured mayonnaise onto the world, with shoppers claiming the team behind the festive options had “gone too far.”
The bottle, still on sale for £1.10, was labelled as being ‘perfect in turkey sandwiches’. Others were unconvinced, demanding Asda rethink its actions.
