A man has died after it is believed he was hit by a car at a North East petrol station, as three people have been arrested – this is a breaking story

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man believed to have been hit by a car.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place at the Asda Express garage on Stockton Road in Seaham on Thursday afternoon. The vehicle is believed to have collided with a pedestrian on the New Seaham Service Station forecourt, according to Durham Constabulary. A man in his 20s sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Stockton Road, Seaham, at around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, January 15).

“A vehicle is believed to have collided with a pedestrian on the New Seaham Service Station forecourt, where a man in his 20s sustained serious injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A murder investigation is now underway, and three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. The section of the B1285 between the Mallard pub and the petrol station is likely to remain closed for some time while inquiries are carried out.

Durham Constabulary has urged anyone with information or with CCTV or dashcam footage in the area around the same time to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 281 of January 15.
