The bus driver stopped the vehicle in a bid to stop the man from being able to get off after a schoolgirl reported him to police while on the bus journey back home
Police have arrested a man in his 40s following reports a schoolgirl was repeatedly ‘sexually assaulted’ while getting the bus home from school.
Officers descended on Churchtown, Gloucestershire, on Monday after reports a man approached the youngster as she waited for a bus. Once on the vehicle, he allegedly continued to touch her without her consent.
It is claimed he touched her thigh and arm and made sexual comments towards her. The girl is believed to have called police whilst on the vehicle.
The police force said similar incidents were reported on Brookfield Road in Churchtown at around 3.30pm across several days. The girl is believed to have called officers to the scene on Wednesday to report the same man was on the bus and had approached her again.
When the bus driver was made aware, he stopped the bus and prevented the suspect from leaving the scene.
A man in his 40s from Gloucester was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Officers are now asking for members of the public to get in touch who may have information to assist their investigation. Gloucestershire Constabulary is also appealing for anyone with mobile phone or CCTV footage that could be of assistance to contact the force.
