A boy, aged 10, was riding his bike and became and became “partially impaled” on a metal garden railing after he lost control while turning a corner in Walton, Liverpool

A 10-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after becoming “partially impaled” on metal railings this afternoon.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and firefighters, were called to Wadeson Road, in Walton, Liverpool, at around 3.25pm on Friday, October 31, following reports a child had been injured in an accident involving his bicycle. Residents said that the boy was riding around a corner when he appeared to lose control of his bike and fell onto a garden fence and a cordon has been put in place at the junction of Wadeson Road and Frampton Road.

One neighbour told how the boy appeared to have injured his stomach. “I was hoovering and didn’t hear anything until the police knocked on my door and asked me for my camera footage. There was police everywhere, around seven cars. It was scary,” they said.

“The boy was shouting ‘it’s my stomach, my stomach,’ and a neighbour came out to help him and phoned for an ambulance.” Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called at 3.22pm and arrived on scene within five minutes, sending two fire engines and a search and rescue team, reported the Liverpool Echo.

A spokesperson said: “Fire crews have been called to assist North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Merseyside Police at an incident in Wadeson Road in Walton, Liverpool this afternoon. Crews were alerted at 3.22pm and on scene at 3.27pm, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance.

“Crews arrived to find a casualty had become partially impaled on a garden railing. Crews liaised with NWAS paramedics on scene to establish the best way forward to remove the conscious and breathing casualty from the railing.

While the casualty was administered pain relief by a paramedic, the casualty was released from the railings and into the care of paramedics for onward transport to hospital. Crews left the scene at 3.38pm.”

Merseyside Police also stated that officers attended the scene to assist emergency services where a boy, aged 10, was involved in an accident. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm emergency services attended an accident in Walton this afternoon, Friday, October 31.

“At around 3.25pm North West Ambulance Service reported that a 10-year-old boy was involved in an accident while riding a pedal bike on Wadeson Road. Nobody else was involved. The boy was taken to hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.”
