Police bodycam footage of night Sara Sharif’s body was discovered
Eerie police bodycam footage shown to the jury has shown the moment officers stormed a house, where they ultimately found little schoolgirl Sara Sharif dead inside.
Little 10-year-old Sara was found dead in her bunkbed, having suffered agonising injuries in her final weeks. Police later stormed the family home in Woking Surrey, on August 10, 2023, after Sara’s father made a frantic call to police after he fled the country.
Her dad Urfan Sharif, 42, is on trial at the Old Bailey in London, where he is accused of his daughter’s murder. Following Sara’s death, he fled to Pakistan and is confessed to having beaten his daughter and killing her, the court heard.
He had fled to Pakistan, alongside five children aged between one and 13 years old, leaving Sara’s lifeless body behind, the court heard.
In the video, the officer is seen getting out of the police vehicle and walking up to the house with torch in hand. “Police”, the officer shouted. “They’ve left the door open.”
The eerie incident continued, with officers walking around the house with their torches. Once again the officer called out asking whether anyone was in the house.
At one point a female officer could be seen putting gloves on her hands before further inspections of the seemingly empty house were carried out. Again police called out to see if anyone was inside the house.
The police bodycam showed the officer taking out a Taser as he prepared to walk up steps in the home. When he was upstairs, the officer inspected the entrances to each room with a torch before the clip came to an end.
Sara’s lifeless body was found inside the home. William Emlyn Jones, prosecuting, told the court: “In an upstairs bedroom, on a bottom bunk bed, the police found the body of a little girl, lying in bed, under the cover, as if asleep. But she was not asleep. She was dead. Next to her body was a note in Urfan Sharif’s handwriting. It echoed what he had said in that 999 call.”
This note read: “It’s me Urfan Sharif who killed my daughter by beating. I swear to God that my intention was not to kill her. But I lost it. I am running away because I am scared.”
It was learned Sara had suffered 10 fractures to her spine and breaks to her right collarbone, two ribs, both shoulder blades, both arms and hands and three fingers, a jury previously heard. Further investigations found there also appeared to be five bite marks on her left arm, one on her inner thigh and a burn mark from an iron on her buttocks.
Sara’s stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, and her uncle Faisal Malik, 28, were charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child between December 16, 2022, and August 9, 2023.
The defendants have denied murder and causing or allowing Sara’s death.
The trial continues.
