A Ryanair plane packed with UK tourists was forced to divert mid-air due to a toilet malfunction – this is a breaking story

A Ryanair plane packed with UK tourists was forced to divert mid-air due to a sudden malfunction.

Flight FR1667 was scheduled to land in Bristol at around 5pm this afternoon after departing from the Canary island of Fuerteventura at lunchtime. But the aircraft was diverted to Lanzarote after an hour and a half up in the air, landing just before 3pm today, after “some of the toilets” stopped working, according to air traffic controllers. “The flight crew on a plane from Fuerteventura to Bristol asked to return to Lanzarote because of problems with some of the toilets. It landed without problems,” they wrote on social media. The plane touched down in Lanzarote just before 3pm today after an hour and a half up in the air.

Based on its flight schedule, the Boeing 737 was north of the Canary Islands over the Atlantic when it turned back around, air traffic controllers added. No-one from the low-cost airline could be reached last night to explain exactly what had happened and say whether passengers had been able to continue to their intended destination or were having to spend the night in Lanzarote.
