Residents in Poland have been woken in the early hours of the morning after air raid sirens were sounded in the early morning.
This occurred after reports of a Russian missile possibly breaching Polish airspace in Lublin, in eastern Poland.
The alarm was sounded in the early hours of Thursday morning, July 30, as rumours spread suggesting that a missile may have been launched.
While authorities are yet to confirm whether a missile had indeed infiltrated the airspace, Marcin Bubicz, a spokesperson for the governor of Lublin province, informed WP Wiadomoci that authorities had received “credible and confirmed” information from Poland’s Government Security Centre regarding a threat of air strikes.
Videos shared on social media captured the night sky with the eerie sound of the siren audible in the background. One British holidaymaker posted a video on X, with the accompanying caption partially reading: “3.50am. Sirens going off.
“As a British tourist this scared the hell out of me.” The sirens eventually ceased and no further alerts were reported.
Air raid warnings were sounded across Ukraine just a few hours earlier. Reuters news agency reported hearing explosions in Kyiv.
Poland, a NATO member, defensively deployed fighter jets to safeguard its airspace in response to Russian air strikes, according to its armed forces’ statement on X.
“Fighter aircraft and an early warning aircraft have begun operations, while ground-based air defence systems and radar reconnaissance systems have reached a state of readiness,” they announced.
They stated that these measures are precautionary in nature.
