The skirred maxi skirt from Next has a floaty feel making it ideal for the hot summer days
Summer is in full swing with two heatwaves sizzling across the country in a matter of weeks. The scorching climes are a great excuse for fashion fans to invest in some new wardrobe staples.
Next has plenty of options, and regularly updates its websites with new mid-season collections. One of the retailer’s most well-liked and reviewed ranges is its collaboration with TV presenter Rochelle Humes.
Her effortless style is often coveted by This Morning fans, and the mum of three always looks beautifully stylish and put together. One stand-out heatwave purchase is this Black and Butter Yellow Spot Shirred Maxi Skirt, priced at £42.
The long, floaty skirt is also available in three other colourways, including plain black, navy, and a striped chocolate-brown. Rochelle models the Black and Butter Yellow Spot Shirred Maxi Skirt with a draped top and open-toe sandals.
The Shirred Maxi Skirt (sizes six to 20) is ideal for heatwaves, as it is made from breathable cotton fabric. It comes in petite and regular lengths; however, availability varies depending on which length and colourway shoppers choose – for example, Rochelle’s butter yellow number is sold out in petite lengths.

This shirred maxi skirt in 100% cotton is a breathable choice for warm-weather dressing.
For similar options, Tu at Sainsbury’s has released this Green Check Print Midi Skirt priced at £24. It has a trendy asymmetrical design and a flowy, hanky hemline.
As this is a midi length, petite wearers can get away with buying it without worrying too much about the length. On the model, it sits at her shins, so it might be just above the ankle for shoppers 5ft. 3 or under.
Elsewhere, Roman also has a number of new summer skirts, including this Spot Print Stretch Maxi Skirt priced at £28. It also comes in two other prints, including a charcoal abstract floral skirt and a brown ditsy floral number.
Going back to Next’s Shirred Maxi Skirt, the piece has an overall satisfaction rating of 4.7 based on more than 35 reviews. One user penned: “Lovely skirt. Very long, I am 5ft 10 and kept the regular length. Generous in size, so sized down.
“Super comfortable and kept me cool in the recent weather. Really pretty in a butter-yellow top. Can be dressed up or down, depending on shes/top worn with it. Big thumbs up.”
Similarly, another buyer added: “This skirt is so lovely, it’s so flattering, nipping the waist in and skims the hips. Fabulous.” Whilst a third consumer remarked: “Lovely skirt. Looks stunning on and looks good with a matching top.”
Not all the reviews are faultless, as one user liked it but also said they would’ve wanted it to have pockets, writing: “I’m 5’7 with a high, full hip and comparatively much smaller waist, and prefer maxi skirts to be genuinely long, hitting at the ankle. I ordered a 16L and it’s perfect, but I’m wearing the shirred part entirely above the hip just because of my body shape (it almost reaches my bra, but I’m okay with it).
They continued: “If you have less hip than me, and could wear it sitting lower, you might find it comes up long for your tastes. Nice-quality fabric; only one star docked for the lack of pockets! For the price, I would have liked them! Even so, more colours would be lovely – perhaps a dark brown, or khaki green?”
Someone else was more pleased, simply saying: “Lovely lightweight summer skirt. Love the fresh green and white stripes. Taking it on holiday with me to Jamaica.”
A final buyer said it was a ‘beautiful long skirt’, adding: “Sits high on the waist, length is just above my ankle, I’m 5’ 3”. I purchased my usual size 12. Fit is great. The skirt’s waist can be dropped due to the elastic waistband, but it feels better on my waist.
“I have the matching top, which is great as a set. Fabulous-quality fabric, very comfortable to wear, and can easily be dressed up or down. High-end item.”
