Richard’s thoughts came just a month before the new Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, hit cinemas on January 17
Richard Gere has revealed his ‘all-time favourite’ song – and it may just take you by surprise. The actor, 75, went as far as to say that a universe without this 1966 tune would be ‘unthinkable’.
“He’s our Picasso,” Richard said in a conversation with The New York Times last December. “It’s unthinkable to me to be in the universe without ‘Visions of Johanna’.”
Richard is referring to the third track on Bob Dylan’s iconic Blonde on Blonde album, released almost 60 years ago. He expressed admiration for both the sweeter acoustic version and separate piece featuring Canadian musician, Robbie Robertson.
Describing the latter as ‘very challenging’, he added: “It’s my all-time favourite record.” Richard’s thoughts came just a month before the new Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, hit cinemas on January 17.
Timothée Chalamet, who starred as the music icon, spent an impressive ‘five years’ preparing for the big role. In a previous conversation with the Mirror, the 29-year-old actor revealed that he’d even visited Dylan’s childhood home.
“When I took this role I went to Bob Dylan’s childhood home and saw all the original Sun Records he had,” Timothée said last month. “It took me five years to learn to play the guitar.
“All the downtime in-between filming I would just play. I also learned how to play harmonica for the role. It is the perfect thing to pull out at a party and make everyone go: ‘Oh my God!'”
The latest biopic took inspiration from the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric!, which documents Dylan’s rise to fame and his notable electric performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro and Edward Norton were among Timothée’s co-stars in this project.
Timothée added: “I get to be the voice of Bob Dylan and that is the greatest honour of my life, truly. This is the movie I am the most proud of in my career. Dylan deserves to get this attention.”
