A family is on the hunt for someone to become a companion to their dog in a rare job opportunity. The role will see the successful candidate join a private estate household to support the dog.

The Live-In Dog Companion and Estate Assistant will be paid £60,000 and will be provided with a cottage on the estate. You can bring your partner and pets, with all bills included.

The role is full-time, working Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm. However, there is some flexibility when the family are in residence at the estate in Surrey.

The unique job description reads: “We are seeking a dependable and caring Live-In Dog Companion & Estate Assistant to join a private estate household.

“This role is centred around providing a consistent presence on the property, supporting the well-being and daily routine of the family dog, and assisting the household team with light support tasks around the estate.

“The successful candidate will act as a guardian of the home, offering reassurance and attentive oversight of the property when principals are in residence or travelling.

“This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys a calm, structured environment and takes pride in maintaining a welcoming and well-run home.”

The main part of the role is caring for the family dog, providing day-to-day care and companionship. Responsibilities include following the dog’s routine, feeding, grooming and maintaining the dog’s well-being.

You would need to monitor the dog’s health and behaviour as well as update the dog’s daily diary. The diary includes routine, meals, walks and trips to the vets, groomers and trainers when needed.

Alongside looking after the dog, the candidate needs to ensure the home “runs smoothly” and is “well cared for”. These roles include acting as a trusted guardian of the property, receiving deliveries and reporting anything that needs attention.

The job description, available on Achieve Hospitality, states that it is not a full-time housekeeping role. Still, you may need to run errands, do light organisational tasks and assist with general estate upkeep.

At times, you may need to reheat chef-prepared meals, prepare simple snacks and tidy the kitchen after use. The family are looking for someone who is “warm, calm and dependable”

You should have a passion for dogs and animals and be comfortable living on-site. Other skills include being organised, discreet, trustworthy and respectful of the private household.

The description adds: “Previous experience in private households, estate roles, dog care, nannying or live-in support roles would be highly advantageous.”
