Emergency services rushed to the Tonnau festival at the Carreglwyd Estate on Anglesey where an 18-year-old woman was unwell and she sadly died in hospital
A teenage woman has tragically died at a Welsh music festival which has been cancelled.
Emergency services rushed to the Tonnau festival at the Carreglwyd Estate on Anglesey at around 1.45am on Saturday morning, following reports of a person being unwell.
An 18-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she sadly died and police have said that her death is being treated as unexpected as investigations continue with the coroner informed.
Organisers have said they are “deeply saddened” by the death and they have taken the decision to cancel the concert, asking people to leave the site by midday on Sunday.
Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. We urge members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the death, and anybody with information that could assist our enquiries should contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference O110259.”
Tonnau Festival is held at Carreglwyd Estate on Llanfaethlu on Anglesey. It was due to run from Friday (July 10) to Sunday and the line-up included Jamz Supernova, Mr Scruff, Pat Kalla & Le Super La Perla, Madalitso Band, Lamisi and K.O.G.
It offers international bands and DJs, culture, food & drink spread over seven stages for 2,000 attendees, reported WalesOnline.
And its online description says it is an “unique and family-friendly event set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the best small independent festivals the UK has to offer”.
A statement from the organisers reads: “Everyone at Tonnau Festival is deeply saddened to confirm that a festival attendee tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a severe medical emergency.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the attendee’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. From the moment the attendee became unwell, our on-site welfare teams, security, and emergency medical staff responded immediately.
“Paramedics and welfare personnel did everything they could to provide emergency care, but unfortunately they later died in hospital. The safety and well-being of our audience is always our highest priority.
“Following this tragedy, and to allow emergency services and local authorities to conduct their necessary work, we made the decision to close the remainder of the festival and have asked people to vacate the site when it is safe for them to do so. We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all our attendees, staff and volunteers during this incredibly difficult situation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will be making no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and hearts are with the family.”
