The brave astronauts on board Artemis II are sending amazing photos from space giving us a whole new perspective on our planet and its moon as they voyage further from earth than any human had done before

Record breaking astronauts have a unique opportunity to take earth-shattering images of the moon after travelling further than any human has ever gone before. The four-strong crew on the Artemis II are seeing the whole of the moon during their lunar fly-by.

Mission control announced they had made history, breaking the 56-year-old record of Apollo 13 of flying 248,655 miles away from earth: “Today for all humanity you are pushing beyond that frontier.”

Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, then gave a touching message to everyone back on earth before sharing a giant hug.

Jeremy Hansen replied: “As we surpass the furthest distance humans have ever travelled from planet earth, we do so in honouring the extraordinary efforts and feats of our predecessors in human space exploration…But we most importantly choose this moment to challenge this generation and the next, to make sure this record is not long lived!”
