During an event in St James’s Palace, the acting legend Miriam Margolyes asked the Queen to pass on a message to her husband as she gushed about the ‘wonderful’ monarch

Queen Camilla greets stars at Women of the World event

Miriam Margolyes stunned Queen Camilla during an event at St James’s Palace, as she issued an emotional plea about King Charles. The women met during an event at St James’ Palace in London for the Women of the World (WOW) organisation, with a host of other prominent women in attendance.

Greeting Camilla with kisses during a line-up, Margolyes told her: “Hello darling, how are you?” The acting legend then asked the Queen to pass on a message to her husband in a poignant plea, as she gushed about how ‘wonderful’ the monarch is faring during a difficult time for the Royal Family.

Miriam said: “Will you tell His Majesty that we love him and we want him to get better and to take no notice of anyone who criticises him, because he’s just wonderful?” The Queen laughed and tapped her on the shoulder, saying: “I will bear that in mind.” Margolyes replied “thank you”, before Camilla moved on to the next guest.

The actress’s plea comes during a turbulent time for the monarchy, as King Charles is dealing with the fallout from the arrest of his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Since the former Duke of York’s arrest in February, calls for the Firm to speak out on the Epstein scandal have intensified.

On Monday, the Royal Family was met with protesters at the annual Commonwealth Day service outside Westminster Abbey, as they held signs that read: “Charles, what did you know?” alongside photos of Andrew that were released in the Epstein files.

Since Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, King Charles has publicly pledged to assist the police in their investigation, saying in a statement that “the law must take its course” as he expressed his “deep concern” over the allegations.

At the Women of the World event, Camilla said she stands in ‘solidarity, sorrow and sympathy’ with women who have survived abuse and sexual violence. The Queen’s address was her most significant speech to date on the issue of violence against women and girls, and follows more than 15 years of supporting survivors, charities and other organisations working in the area.

Camilla told her guests: “To every survivor of every kind of violence, many of whom have not been able to tell their stories or who have not been believed, please know that you are not alone.

“We stand with you and alongside you, today and every day, in solidarity, sorrow and sympathy. Every woman has a story. And these stories must be told. Because when we live in a culture of silence, we empower violence against women and girls.”

Addressing guests including actors Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Harriet Walter and Hannah Waddingham, as well as politicians and dozens of survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, the Queen said that boys “should be taught to manage and to express their feelings healthily” in the playground and that in the classroom, “all children must learn what constitutes consent – and what is assault.”

Against the backdrop of the continued allegations facing former prince Andrew’s relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, royal sources suggested the Queen’s words “spoke for themselves”.
