Police have launched a murder probe after officers were called to a hospital in Cambridge – where an inmate from HMP Highpoint died after being injured in an alleged attack
A 28-year-old prisoner has died after he was allegedly attacked by a fellow inmate at a UK prison.
A murder probe is now underway after police were called to Addenbrookes’ Hospital in Cambridge on Tuesday morning. The injured inmate, from HMP Highpoint Prison, had been admitted to hospital due to his injures before passing away. Officers were called following the man’s death.
The man was allegedly attacked by another prisoner on January 23. Suffolk Police confirmed the victim was taken to hospital and received treatment before returning to prison. Later that day, he was rushed back to hospital, where he died. A Home Office post-mortem is due to take place later today.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.
Suffolk Police are treating the incident as a murder investigation as officers continue to carry out inquiries and work closely with HMP Highpoint.
