Beauty Bay has been saved from collapse after it was sold to an international investment group through a pre-pack administration.
The online cosmetics retailer has been snapped up by AA Investments Group, with 62 employees moved across to its new owner.
It comes after the Mirror reported that Beauty Bay had also taken its website down. The following message still remains on its webpage: “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”
Beauty Bay was founded in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie and is based in Manchester. It sells more than 200 brands on its platform, including Ariana Grande, Clinique and MAC, as well as its own range of products.
Arron and David Gabbie said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to our brilliant team who have helped to make Beauty Bay everything that it is today.
“Their commitment and support over the last 27 years have been unwavering, no more so than over these past few weeks.”
Rick Harrison and James Clark of Interpath had been appointed joint administrators.
Interpath managing director and joint administrator Rick Harrison said: “Since its inception in 1999, Beauty Bay has grown to become one of the UK’s leading online beauty retailers, selling well-known cosmetics and cult brands to over five million customers.
“We’re pleased to have concluded this transaction which will see the brand continue under new ownership, and wish everyone connected with the business all the best for the future.”
Beauty Bay had been exploring options to raise new funding, which included an outright sale of the business.
In more retail news, fashion chain Quiz recently collapsed into administration with 109 jobs lost. The redundancies are being made across its head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire.
The Quiz website has been taken offline and shoppers are being told that online orders which have not been dispatched, will be cancelled.
Quiz is also not issuing refunds – instead, it is advising customers to contact their bank or credit card for money back.
Alternatively, Quiz says customers can exchange unwanted products in store for something else of the same value.
Quiz stores remain open, and the company has announced it will be running stock clearances across all its branches. However, you should be aware that the retailer is no longer accepting gift cards.
Quiz has 40 stores across the UK and concessions in New Look and Matalan stores. Quiz concessions which trade from New Look and Matalan stores in the UK are not part of the administration processes.
