Police were left scratching their heads after they spotted the unusual item hung up on the walls of a home during a drugs raid in Halifax. Officers also found cannabis plants
Anti-drug police raided a cannabis farm in a planned raid – only to find a bizarre item hanging from the walls of the property.
Officers executed a warrant at the property in the Park Ward area of Halifax on Wednesday under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They recovered cannabis – but it was the presence of another plant that left them confused. Bags of garlic could be seen hanging by the doors and windows inside the property.
The police suggested a few explanations for the presence of garlic, ranging from fear of Dracula himself to covering up the smell of cannabis. West Yorkshire Police said on social media: “Garlic….to fend off spiders? Vampires or the 5.0? Today local officers have executed a warrant under the misuse of drugs act in the Park ward area. Inside the address they found lots of cannabis plants at various stages of growth. Whilst there, they also found lots of garlic. What do we think the reason is??”
“A. The “gardener” has a real fear of Dracula?” B. The “gardener” has a real fear of spiders? (Attacking his plants) C. The “gardener” thinks it will hide the smell of his drugs to the police? D. Phone a friend.” The cannabis plants have since been destroyed. Police have also collected forensic evidence and hope to identify a subject soon.
Their garlic discovery appeared to raise a few chuckles among local residents, who praised the police for their good work and laughed about the odd situation. One woman wrote: “Outstanding. I’m thinking answer is A. Keep up the good work.” Another joked: “If no one has claimed, can I grab that garlic please, I forgot to order some on my shopping delivery.” While another woman asked: “Is the garlic still available please.”
In a separate incident in February, a joke about a dead body led police searching a structural engineer’s home, where they found £1,600 worth of drugs. David Miller told the officers the 211g of cannabis – with a street value of up to £1,600 – was all for his own consumption. He said he bought in bulk because he didn’t like to go out regularly to buy from drug dealers.
