Products featuring Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee have been recalled due to choking risk and customers are urged to return them for a full refund
Well-loved Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee products have been pulled from shelves in an urgent recall over safety fears. The cartoon favourites are massive hits with youngsters and appear across countless merchandise.
Yet several Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee books have now been withdrawn years after production. Ladybird titles starring the pair present a choking hazard to little ones.
Four of the books in question showcase Peppa Pig, whilst another stars Hey Duggee.
Printed between 2020 and 2021 across the UK, they carry a choking risk because tiny pieces can detach from the covers. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued an official product recall alert.
Officials cautioned: “The products present a risk of choking as the glitter varnish finish on the cover can lift and flake off, creating small parts. These small parts pose a choking hazard to children, particularly those under 36 months of age who have a natural tendency to explore objects by placing them in their mouths,” reports the Express.
“The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
Consequently, Ladybird Books Limited has withdrawn the titles.
The OPSS urged: “We recommend that owners keep these products out of reach of young children and return it to the distributor for a full refund.”
Book publisher Penguin has issued a statement regarding the items. They advised customers: “If you have a copy from any of the printings listed please take the book away from small children and return it to the retailer you bought it from for a full refund (there is no need to produce a receipt).
“No other printings of the titles included in this product recall or any other titles are affected by this issue.”
