A viral money saving advisor has stunned people who are only just realising that they have been missing out on getting a hot drink with their meal deals in a number of supermarkets
When it comes to lunchtimes, many of us find it quick and easy to grab a meal deal from a nearby supermarket in between work or a busy day – but a money saving advisor has pointed out that you might be missing out getting more for your money.
The classic sandwich, pasta or salad as a main accompanied by a snack and drink never fails hungry customers. However, in recent years some have been put off from getting meal deals due to the price rises.
Now, in Sainsbury’s you will pay £3.75 and in Tesco a meal deal will set you back £3.60 with a Clubcard or £4 without. Plus Morrisons’ Food To Go Meal Deal is priced at £4, and in Co-op you can get one for £3.50 if you’re a member, or it’s £4 otherwise.
But, if you want to make your spending worthwhile, you can pick up also pick up a hot drink from Costa machines in one of these supermarkets and include it in your deal. Typically, drinks at the coffee house giant will set you back between £3.75 and £4.40 for classic hot drinks like a latte, cappuccino, flat white, americano and hot chocolate.
But if you get it in a meal deal, you can get the hot drink you want, plus a meal for less than the price of one Costa coffee. Popular bargain hunter Jordan Cox, better known as Britain’s Coupon King, shared the tip on his social media pages recently. The viral man said: “Did you know this meal deal trick? At Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons & Co-op – if you see a Costa Coffee Express machine by the meal deals… there’s a reason!
“Hot drinks are included as a drink in your meal deal – and they’re worth over £3 each! Most meal deals are £3.50-£4 for a sandwich, drink and snack, so you’re only paying a few pence more to get a sandwich and snack.”
He noted that customers should be aware to not add any extra syrups on top of your drinks as it will cost you extra. Commenting on the video, one individual said: “That’s really good.”
“I never knew that, thanks for the tip,” another added. “I’m always about picking the most expensive things that I can in a meal deal,” said a third.
One other, who often uses the trick, noted: “I do this lots , even if I don’t want a meal deal , save it for the following day and still get a nice coffee , and you can get costa points when you scan QR on machine too.”
