It’s no secret that cleaning the oven can be a time-consuming and unpleasant task, but this hidden feature is going to make it a lot easier for many UK homeowners
Cleaning an oven can be a daunting and time-consuming task, particularly when faced with stubborn baked-on grease or spills. Many homeowners may not be aware of certain features that could simplify the process, leading to infrequent cleaning and a build-up that becomes increasingly difficult to remove.
In fact, leading appliance retailer AEG has revealed that nearly one in every four Brits confess to only cleaning their oven once a year. However, many modern ovens have a hidden button or lever located near the top corners of the door, which could significantly ease your household chores.

Being aware of and utilising this feature could save you both time and effort, making oven maintenance a more manageable part of your regular cleaning routine. It will also save you from suffering the back pain from being on your tiptoes for hours trying to scrub the accumulated dirt from the oven.
As per its purpose, Cooktop Cove said: “The primary purpose of this button is to lock and unlock the hinge mechanism, allowing the door to be lifted away from the oven body seamlessly.”

Once the locking mechanism is disengaged, carefully lift the door and gently pull it away from the oven frame – then, you can start with the cleaning process using the appropriate chemicals.
After completing your cleaning or maintenance, simply align the door with the base of the oven and press it back until it clicks securely into place, re-engaging the lock, advises AEG’s Oven Product Expert, Andrew Wasdell.
Cleaning your oven is just as important as other cleaning task. He said: “This leads to you opening and closing the door more frequently, meaning the oven ends up using more energy to get back up to temperature.”
“The other main problem with having a dirty oven is that it can impact the taste of the food you are cooking. For example, if you have a greasy oven, and the grease is burning during cooking, it could lead to a change in the taste of the food that is being cooked,” he added.
By following these simple instructions, the oven will look and feel completely new. It doesn’t require any extra effort, but simply pressing this button will facilitate this cleaning task by far – and it won’t take much longer. Cleaning the oven straight after each use will also ensure that your foods taste nicer every time.
