Here’s something that usually surprises people: The United States is the world’s
top exporter of gasoline. About one-sixth — 16% — of global gasoline exports originates in the U.S. This critical export provides Americans with jobs and eases the U.S. trade deficit. It also keeps other countries dependent on us — the kind of economic leverage President Donald Trump is always talking about.
The U.S. can do this because the country is awash in oil and gas. The U.S. outproduces the world. It produces more than Saudi Arabia. More than Russia. The United States is No. 1.
