Ilya Sutskever, who was one of the original creators of the artificial intelligence technology behind ChatGPT, said he is leaving OpenAI after nearly a decade with the company
Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI and one of the original creators of the artificial intelligence technology behind ChatGPT, has announced his departure from the company after nearly a decade.
Last year, Sutskever was among four board members who voted to oust chief executive Sam Altman, only to reinstate him shortly after. The decision to leave was shared by Sutskever on social media platform X, where he revealed he is working on a “very personally meaningful” project, though no further details were given.
Altman expressed sadness at Sutskever’s departure, describing him as “one of the greatest minds of our generation, a guiding light of our field, and a dear friend.” Jakub Pachocki will take over as chief scientist at San Francisco-based OpenAI, with Altman expressing confidence in his ability to “very confident he will lead us to make rapid and safe progress towards our mission of ensuring that AGI benefits everyone.”
AGI, or artificial general intelligence, refers to machines that possess human-like intelligence across a broad range of tasks. OpenAI recently introduced an update to its AI model, which it claims can reason across text, audio and video in real time.
