Beauty and wellness editor Laura Mulley put this multitasking blender to the test to see how well it whizzed up her favourite winter soups – and it’s currently on sale

For me it’s now most definitely soup season, and I’ll often spend Sundays whizzing up a batch of my favourites for lunches during the week. I’ve used – and loved – a pricey Sage blender for nearly 10 years, but with it finally showing signs of wearing out and slowing down, I decided to try a far cheaper model to see if its soup-making skills could match up.

The appliance I replaced my old favourite with is the Nutribullet Blender Combo, usually priced at £130 but currently down to about £110 on websites such as Argos, Tesco and Nutribullet’s own website ahead of Black Friday. Combining a kitchen jug blender and Nutribullet’s famous bullet blender in one, it promises to be able to make everything from soups and smoothies to sauces and spreads in seconds. Here’s how I found it…

I’ve actually never used an original Nutribullet bullet blender myself, but I can’t wait to give this attachment a go for making smoothies once the weather turns warmer (a smoothie is my go-to summer breakfast). The bundle also comes with two other cups – a 700ml travel up and a 500ml short cup – for transporting your drink on the go.

The main reason I wanted this blender, however, was for the extra-large pitcher jug, for making my soups – and I was immediately impressed. It’s big enough to fit a four-person serving of soup, with an extra-wide brim making pouring stuff in – and out – of it easy and relatively mess-free.

It features five blending settings – Extract, Low, Med, High and Pulse – with Low or Medium recommended for your average soup. And I can honestly save that it blends the content inside to a super-smooth texture in seconds; no lumps left at all.

I also like that the jug itself is dishwasher-proof (water will collect on the base when upside down though, so watch out when you’re opening the dishwasher, and the lid feels secure (no need to nervously place a hand on the top when blending).

My one criticism is that I wish the base was a little sturdier (certainly compared to my previous luxe model), but for a well-priced, multi-tasking blender that will make me endless meals this winter, this Nutribullet device totally gets my vote.

Another option is the Ninja Blast Max Portable Blender for £69.99, down from £89.99, saving savvy shoppers £20 on their purchase. The blender is described as ‘Ninja’s most powerful cordless blender’ and can offer up to 25 blends per full charge.

It has three blending functions: automatic crush, smoothie programmes, plus a manual blend mode. It comes with a removable twist-and-go cup, which is both leak-proof and can be carried with its handle.
