Parents endure ‘anxious wait’ outside school gates
Footage seen by Nottinghamshire Live show three police cars remain parked outside the front of the school on Abbey Street.
While a police cordon has been set up, dozens of people have reportedly gathered in front of the building – including parents.
Parents have spoke of their ‘horrible’ wait to find out more information as they waited outside to collect their children.
Ahmed Bashir, one of the parents currently outside, told reporter Joel Moore that he is still waiting for his 14-year-old daughter to be let out of the school. While he knows both she and his 12-year-old son are okay, he faced an anxious wait when he first arrived just after 3pm.
“When I arrived police cars had stopped everywhere but wouldn’t say anything,” the 45-year-old said.
He added: “I crossed my fingers that they were okay. The problem is you can’t use phones in there. I tried to call and text my daughter but she didn’t respond.
“I was a bit worried. I wondered what was happening.”
