Ballots for Farage’s self-imposed byelection in Clacton are costing the local council four times as much to print, thanks to the record number of people standing.
The ballot paper is 90cm long, longer than most adults’ arms, due to the nearly three dozen people participating in the election. A record 34 people have decided to stand in the election, which is proving disastrous for Farage.
Ian Davidson, Tendring District Council chief executive, told the BBC organising the vote has been “manic”, adding: “We’ve logistically been looking at the size of the ballot paper, how we fold it to get it into the envelope so we can send it out to our postal voters [and] how we manage the polling stations.”
