Next has confirmed it will close its stores on Boxing Day once again.
It means anyone wanting to shop its Boxing Day sale will have to do so online, or wait until its stores reopen on Friday, December 27. Next has kept its doors closed on December 26 since 2021, in order to give its workers more time at home with their families at Christmas. Next has more than 450 stores across the UK.
In the past, Next launched its Christmas sale online on December 24, with its in-store sale starting at 6am on December 27. We’ve asked Next for its timings for this year and we’ll update this article when we get a response. Next stores will be shut as normal on Christmas Day.
Marks and Spencer has also confirmed its shops won’t open on Boxing Day – like Next, its stores will reopen on December 27. In a statement, M&S said: “Our stores, support centres and distribution centres will be closed on Boxing Day so colleagues can spend more time with loved ones, but the majority of stores will reopen on the 27 December for our seasonal Sale.”
John Lewis stores is also closing most of its stores on Boxing Day. The only branches which will be open for business are John Lewis Stratford, which will open between 10am and 5pm, and John Lewis Manchester Trafford Centre, which will be open between 10am and 8pm. Aldi has also announced its stores will once again be closed on Boxing Day, along with Home Bargains.
The update from Next comes after the home and clothing retailer started charging customers 15p for clothes hangers at some of its stores, as part of plans to cut back on plastic. A trial was being run in branches in Bristol, Preston, Watford and Bishop Auckland earlier this year. Shoppers were charged for the hanger if they wanted to take it with their purchase.
Next also recalled a pack of sleepsuits earlier this year over fears it could be a choking hazard for children. The retailer pulled its three-pack footless yellow and blue zip sleepsuits because the zip slider could become detached. Next sleepsuits typically retail at £19 and £21, depending on the size you need.
In a recall notice published online in June, Next said: “We’ve identified a problem with the above item. Unfortunately, it’s come to light that there is a potential problem with the zip construction which does not meet our required standards and is a potential choking hazard as the zip slider could become detached. As the sleepsuits don’t meet our strict technical specifications, we’ve taken the precaution of recalling them and request that you return the item to us immediately for a full refund.”
