Two people – a man and a woman – have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in his 20s whose injuries were ‘consistent with a stabbing’, police said
Police have launched a murder probe after a man was found stabbed to death in Bury late on New Year’s Eve.
Officers raced to Tarn Drive shortly before midnight following reports of a disturbance at a property. A man and a woman, both aged in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in his 20s. The man’s injuries were were “consistent with a stabbing,” police said.
Multiple police officers and vehicles swarmed the residential street, where cordons were erected and forensic teams worked around a blue tent inside the fence of a property. Officers remained at the scene throughout the night and into the morning.
Crack Tactical Aid Unit police were seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries this afternoon, while another group of officers were scoping out drains, Manchester Evening News reports. Resident Melanie Hughes said the road was taped off from “about 12.30am with lots of police/paramedics in attendance as I was leaving my daughter’s house.”
Another resident was told by police “there had been a major incident” when they asked about the cordons.
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, who represents Redvales ward on Bury Council, said in a statement: “Overnight there has been a very serious incident on Tarn Drive, which has resulted in a loss of life. GMP, Bury Council and Housing Services are working very closely on this incident as you can imagine.
“This is now a murder investigation. I want to reassure all local residents this is an isolated incident and there is no reason to assume there is a threat to the wider area.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 11.55pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025, we were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Tarn Drive in Bury. Officers attended the scene and located a male in his 20s with injuries consistent with a stabbing. Despite the best efforts of emergency services at the scene, the male sadly died.
“A male and a female in their 20s have both been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.”
