Hong Kong will ring in 2026 without fireworks over Victoria Harbour after a massive fire in November killed at least 161 people. The city’s tourism board will instead host a music show on Wednesday night featuring soft rock duo Air Supply and other singers in Central, a business district which also is home to the famous nightlife hub Lan Kwai Fong.
Some of the planned celebrations in London have been stopped as an estimated 30,000 people who celebrated New Year’s Eve on top of Primrose Hill in 2024 will not be able to this year. The Camden park has panoramic views of the capital, but some Londoners were left irked after officials announced gates would be locked from 8pm.
People living near Primrose Hill have told of their anger after opaque green hoarding was installed around the park in an “unprecedented” measure to prevent revellers.

The Metropolitan Police said the decision to close lay with the Royal Parks charity, which manages Primrose Hill. Royal Parks said the capacity to manage crowds of the size usually watching the fireworks event would be “severely diminished” in part due to the closure of The Metropolitan Police’s Royal Parks Operational Command Unit.
Commander Nick John, who is in charge of the Met’s New Year’s Eve policing, said: “The Royal Parks are urging people not to try to gather at Primrose Hill this year and we would echo those calls. Please make alternative plans. Anyone trying to access the park will find that it is not possible.”
Those planning to celebrate outside in the UK have been warned to make sure they keep warm and wear extra layers when they head out to fireworks displays, with chilly temperatures expected.
Forecaster Simon Partridge told the Press Association it will be “cold regardless of where you are” as 2026 begins. “At midnight in London there will be mostly clear skies, it will be quite chilly, but with fairly light winds, with temperatures around 1-2C,” he said.
