All four nations of the UK will see snow fall, according to the new weather forecast maps, as a -2C chill from the Arctic sends temperatures tumbling
Britain is set to be blanketed with snow in just a matter of days thanks to a -2C Arctic chill, according to new forecasts.
Despite a mild start to the month, weather maps from WXCharts suggest a cold snap will soon descend on all four nations of the UK, with temperatures falling below freezing. One winter overview chart shows flakes falling in the north of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland on Tuesday 19 November. In other regions, such as the south coast and southwest, this is forecast to instead fall as rain.
Some areas in the far north such as Wick and Fort William in Scotland, could record up to 7cm per hour of snow during the cold snap, reports the Express. This will be accompanied by colder temperatures across the UK, and in London the mercury is expected to hover around just 2-3C.
James Madden, from Exacta Weather, has meanwhile predicted the current mild temperatures to remain until the middle of the month, after which point more frequent frost and cold weather will move in. He wrote in a recent long-range forecast: “There are currently no storms or wintry blasts expected across our shores as high pressure and settled weather continue to dominate, but we should still expect some big changes during the second half of the month, as the settled and mild to warm weather gives way to more unsettled, colder conditions and early wintry blasts.
“The weather wants to be kind and mild to warm until around mid-November on my projections, with the worst of conditions coming from some expected fog and developing frosts from cold overnight conditions at times during these types of developments. However, we should still expect those bigger changes to some further stormy and even wintry conditions at times during the second half of November, possibly a little earlier.”
In the meantime, largely overcast conditions are forecast for most parts of the UK on Tuesday. Some drizzle is expected over higher ground, according to the Met Office though most areas will remain dry. The current phase of mild temperatures with dry but cloudy weather is set to continue into at least the weekend thanks to an incoming high pressure front, though some brief fog patches may emerge.
