McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes has launched a new Mango flavour of the iconic treat – and it’s available to buy now in UK shops like Home Bargains. So here’s what you need to know

Legendary McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes have been given a sunny transformation, as a fresh and fruity variant has arrived on supermarket shelves just in time for summer.

McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes first hit UK shops in 1927. Almost a century on, they remain one of Britain’s most cherished tea-time favourites because they’ve perfected a winning combination: airy sponge, a zesty orange-flavoured jelly filling, and a delicate coating of dark chocolate that delivers that distinctive crack on top.

The blend of tastes and textures makes them seem luxurious without being overly rich – and it’s remarkably easy to reach for “just one more”.

They’ve also earned their place in British popular culture thanks to the enduring “is it a cake or a biscuit?” discussion, immortalised by a UK VAT tribunal in the 1990s that helped secure their cake classification.

While the original recipe remains a staple here in the UK, the brand enjoys switching things up from time to time. And now, there’s been an exciting development in the biscuit section.

The signature orange filling has previously been replaced with flavours including cherry, strawberry, blackcurrant and lemon. Plus, recently there was the Hot Honey version of the beloved cake.

Yet, if you’re craving more tropical notes, then the latest addition could be perfect for you. Mango-flavoured Jaffa Cakes have just hit the market, and Home Bargains shoppers are going wild for them.

Every Jaffa Cake Mango boasts a layer of sweet, succulent mango-flavoured jelly, nestled between the classic light sponge base and finished with that distinctive crackly dark chocolate topping we all know and love.

It follows the same familiar format, simply with a more exotic, summery twist running through the centre.

On a well-known foodie page on social media, a shopper announced: “NEW Jaffa Cakes Mango now in @homebargains.” alongside a snapshot of the product.

Followers flocked to the comments section to share their opinions, eager to get their hands on them. One enthusiast gushed: “Absolutely banging as well.”

Another said: “Think I might have to find these.” And a third added: “I want to try them.”

But not everyone was won over, as one critic wrote: “They are underwhelming. Not enough punch to the mango flavour. Not as bad as the hot honey ones though. They were pathetically bad.”

McVities confirmed that the new Mango flavoured Jaffa Cake hit shelves from April 20. They are now widely available in major supermarkets across the country – including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda – priced at £1.50 for a 10-pack.
