A customer asked Nationwide for guidance about the issue
Nationwide Building Society has shed light on its payment rules following a customer’s complaint about pending payments. The customer, who first raised the issue on December 16, reported that while a payment made the previous day had been processed, three other payments were still marked as pending.
Nationwide responded by explaining: “Payments can remain pending for up to seven days, after which time they’ll automatically drop back into your available balance if not taken by the merchant.” The customer clarified that the issue was regarding a payment made to their credit card, not with it.
In response, the building society shared another rule, stating: “Payments made to your credit card can take 72 hours to clear. So we can look into this further securely, please start a chat on your banking app, through your internet banking or by visiting our website.”
The customer then queried what had happened to the funds which were “debited straight away” from their account. Nationwide explained: “The funds will be applied to your credit card straight away, however it can take up 72 hours to clear and show on your account.”
They advised the customer to contact their credit card team at 03456 00 66 11 for more help. Nationwide customers might also want to check if they are eligible for a £175 bonus scheme.
Nationwide is offering customers a one-off £175 bonus if you switch your current account to them. This offer applies when switching from a non-Nationwide bank account to a new or existing FlexDirect, FlexAccount or FlexPlus account.
To bag the bonus, you’ll need to carry out a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service, which includes closing your old account. You have to complete your switch within 28 days of requesting it.
Also, within 31 days of opening the account or applying for the switch, you’ll need to deposit at least £1,000 into the account and make one debit card payment. Once you’ve ticked all these boxes, the £175 will be paid into the Nationwide account you’ve switched to.
Expect to see the payment in your account within 10 days of meeting all the requirements.
