Nationwide often gives its millions of members free cash
Nationwide is warning people not to “miss out” on £50 in free cash that could be sitting waiting for them. The world’s biggest building society regularly dishes out payments to its members, and earlier this year bosses announced millions would receive a “big thank you” payment worth £50.
To qualify, you needed to have been a Nationwide member on September 30, 2024, and remained one when the payments were distributed. During the 12 months leading up to the end of September 2024, members must also have either owed at least £100 on one or more Nationwide mortgages; held at least £100 across one or more Nationwide current or savings accounts; or made at least one qualifying transaction through a Nationwide current or savings account.
Nationwide confirmed all payments have now been issued – but warned: “If you think you’re eligible and haven’t heard from us, there are ways you can check.” Most payments landed straight into people’s accounts, while others were dispatched via cheque.
The building society is now alerting customers: “Cheques must be paid in by 1 January 2026 to make sure you don’t miss out on the payment.” Additional guidance on the society’s website states: “If you think you were eligible, and didn’t receive an email or letter from us, it may be because your contact details were incorrect.
“You can check your contact details in the internet bank and banking app. It may also be because our records show you no longer live in the UK, so we have sent you a cheque.
“If this is the case, you will need to contact us by January 1 2026 to confirm your details. You will need to log in to the internet bank or banking app to chat with us or visit one of our branches. We may need you to confirm your identity.”
