Millions of Nationwide members have previously been paid £100 through the scheme
Nationwide Building Society has released a statement regarding the next round of its Fairer Share Payment. Members have been awarded multiple payments via the programme in recent years.
In 2025, more than four million customers were granted a £100 bonus payment through the initiative. The Fairer Share Payment involves Nationwide distributing its profits among its members. For the previous year’s payout, you needed to have a qualifying current account with the provider, plus either a qualifying savings account or a qualifying mortgage.
Bonus payments under the programme were also distributed in 2023 and 2024, with a £100 payment issued on each occasion. This means some loyal customers have collected a total of £300. Given that the bonus cash has become something of an annual tradition, members may wonder whether another round could be on its way this year.
Information on the Nationwide website regarding the programme states: “We’d like to make Fairer Share Payments every year, but it depends on how we perform financially. For any future payments, we may change the eligibility criteria and the amount we pay.”
Nationwide was approached for an update on whether there will be a 2026 edition of the payment programme. A spokesperson said: “Nationwide’s board will decide on a Fairer Share Payment for 2026 and it will depend on our financial performance.
“That assessment will be made after our financial year end, with the eligibility criteria for this year being agreed then too. The decision will be announced as part of our full year results in May.”
Other Nationwide bonuses
This is distinct from the Big Nationwide Thank You, a one-off £50 payment that went out to approximately 12 million members in 2024. The payments were issued as a token of appreciation following Nationwide taking on Virgin Money.
However, there was a recent deadline regarding this payout scheme. If you received a cheque through the post for your £50, this needed to be banked by January 1, 2026.
Customers may also be able to secure some Nationwide bonus cash through the group’s ongoing switching incentive. Nationwide will currently pay you £175 to transfer your current account from a non-Nationwide provider to a new or existing FlexDirect, FlexAccount or FlexPlus account.
After fulfilling all the qualifying requirements, Nationwide will credit the sum to the account you’ve switched to within 10 days. You must keep the account open to receive the payment. The payment will appear on your statement as ‘Switching Offer’.
