Police have found a body during water searches for a missing teenage boy.
Mylo Capilla, aged 13, was last seen at 9pm on Thursday at Ramsey Gardens in Ingleby Barwick, Teesside, where he is believed to have entered River Tees. He was reported missing a short time later, sparking a major overnight search involving police, divers and a mountain rescue team. Police said tonight that “the body of a boy” had been found, and that Mylo’s parents have been informed. Formal identification has not yet taken place.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said in a statement: “Very sadly, police and partner agencies searching the river for 13-year-old Mylo Capilla at Ingleby Barwick have found the body of a boy.
“Whilst formal identification has yet to take place, Mylo’s parents have been informed and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers. All our thoughts are with Mylo’s family and friends as well as with the wider community at this extremely difficult time.”
Speaking earlier before the police announcement, Mylo Capilla’s father said he felt “numb” and “helpless” as a large-scale search for his son continues.
“I feel numb, I feel helpess. I’ve just been walking around again there searching,” Dan Capilla, 43, told Teesside Live. “I just don’t know what to do.”
Dan, a design engineer, said he last saw Mylo at 4pm on Thursday and was alerted to his disappearance shortly after 9pm after Mylo’s mum, who he is separated from, raised the alarm.
