Four people have been arrested in connection after the horror double stabbing, with police urging any witnesses to come forward in the wake of the shocking attack
A murder probe has now been launched after this afternoon’s shock double stabbing at a UK skate park that has left one man dead and a boy fighting for his life in hospital.
Northamptonshire Police said it received reports at about 3.45pm on Wednesday, February 18 to a “serious incident” with two people stabbed after an altercation at Briar Hill Skate Park in Northampton. Police have now confirmed that, despite the best efforts of first responders and members of the public, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
A teenage boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody, Northamptonshire Police confirmed. Those arrested include two teenage boys, a man and a woman, all from Northampton.
The skate park is now taped off to the public and a police cordon will remain in place at the park while investigations continue, with several surrounding roads also affected. Members of the public have been urged to avoid the area where possible.
Police have confirmed there will be an increased presence in the neighbourhood, including high-visibility patrols, as officers carry out house-to-house enquiries and work to reassure the local community.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life, and a teenage boy is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are firmly with both their families at this difficult time.
“We know incidents of this nature can cause concern within the neighbourhood and wider community, and I would like to offer reassurance that a team of dedicated officers is working at pace to establish what has happened.
“High-visibility patrols will be taking place in the area and I would encourage anyone with concerns to approach one of our officers, who will be happy to help.
“Arrests were made promptly and enquiries are continuing at a fast pace, however I would still appeal for witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward to please do so.”
