A mum shared her anger after shopping for children’s clothing recently and spotting a ‘weird’ item for children aged four and under – while many parents agree others say they don’t see a problem
A mum has shared her fury after shopping recently and spotting a “weird” clothing item for babies – erupting a debate online.
Shopping for children’s clothing can be fun for parents. Typically you will find t-shirts with characters on or animals, frilly socks, mini dungarees and endless baby grows in high street stores. Plus, many shops also offer clothing that can make you’re little one look like a mini adult – from baby tuxedos to sparkly ‘high heels’. But how far is too far?
One mum was left shocked after spotting a leather mini skirt in H&M, available to buy for an 18-month-old up to four years, which she noted didn’t feature shorts inside. Hannah, who shares parenting tips and tricks online, said: “H&M, I love your toddler clothes… but a leather mini skirt on a baby is weird.”
“It confuses me on so many levels,” she added. In the comments, she further expressed her feelings, and said: “I’d feel similarly about a baby boy in a tux – I just, personally, don’t like dressing children like adults. Toddlers should be wearing comfortable clothes, this is not it.”
Agreeing with the mum, one individual said: “Cheap and tacky.” Another agreed: “No, hate it when people dress kids like adults and wear the same as there kid. The adult version tacky as f.”
“Stop it, absolutely no,” said another. “Just wrong,” another commented. Another noted: “It’s sad that almost all toddler clothes now are quite revealing without tights etc, defo not for warmer months without those things.”
Another stunned individual said: “Oh wow, and all the bikinis for kids under 14. Why the hell would anyone dress their child like that.”
But many others said they do not see a problem with the skirt. One individual said: “Unless you’re gonna style it fishnets and a rhinestone bralette I don’t see the problem.” “It’s only weird if you think that way,” commented another.
Another individual noted: “I think this would be so cute with black tights black boots a little white t-shirt and a leather jacket? What’s the issue?”
Mum Tammy who has bought the item, said: “My kids have this and it looked lovely with a jumper and tights.” “My daughter has one, so cute,” said another.
H&M declined to comment after being contacted.
