A mum-of-two documented her shopping trip to Aldi where she bought the same items as she previously did 18 months earlier – and was baffled when she saw price difference

A mum decided to recreate an identical food shop she’d done 18 months earlier at Aldi to compare prices, as she was batch cooking meals ahead of the birth of her second child. But the difference in price left her completely speechless.

Amber is a mum-of-two under two from Devon, who regularly shares her day-to-day life with her 22,700 Instagram followers, documenting everything since welcoming her second child just weeks ago. However, while eight months pregnant, she headed to Aldi to stock up on groceries and prep meals in bulk, claiming she’d get roughly 70 meals from all the items purchased – having completed the very same shop before her eldest daughter was born.

“18 months ago, this exact food shop cost me £71.51. And from that, I was able to cook a whooping 70 meals, to help me through my postpartum period,” Amber explained at the start of one of her Instagram videos.

She went on to reveal that at the time of filming she was a mum-of-one, eight months pregnant with her second child, meaning she’d soon have ‘two under two’. To make life easier for herself down the line, she opted to batch cook a variety of meals to keep stocked in the freezer once her baby was born.

Using the exact same shopping list from 18 months prior, she set out to prepare identical meals and headed to Aldi to see just how much the prices had shifted.

“And I’m really intrigued to see how much more money it’s gonna cost me 18 months later,” she said.

“What was an absolute bonus was the super six vegetables were down to either 4p or 8p each,” she revealed, as she picked out some carrots, and cauliflower florets.

While she kept her precise shopping list under wraps, her trolley was spotted being loaded up with frozen veg, lasagne sheets, penne pasta, milk, curry cooking sauces, chicken breasts, sausages, mince, bacon, puff pastry, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes, and shredded cheese, among other items.

The entire haul came to £72.07, representing a rise of just 56p, or 0.71%. This also works out at roughly £1 per meal for everything she was planning to rustle up.

“And it’s really highlighted the need for me to plan ahead, because recently, I’ve been spending at least £100 a week on shopping, sometimes even £150,” Amber revealed.

Amber had also encouraged viewers to guess the final total before the big reveal, with many estimating anywhere between £80 and upwards of £180. That said, some weren’t particularly surprised the increase had been so modest.

“I think it’s about the same because Aldi constantly makes things cheaper and has more deals,” one person said. Someone else also pointed out: “Yea but the veg you bought was 4-5p each the regular price could have sent this bill to about the £80 mark.”

Someone else also theorised: “I am wondering if smaller size items in 2026… everything seems smaller!”

Amber later posted several videos showcasing the various dishes she prepared in advance of her second child’s arrival, ensuring that none of her shopping went to waste.
