Megan Hughes, 31, was found dead at a property in Berwickshire on Sunday, and her family have paid tribute to her saying that she was a ‘much loved mother and daughter’
A mum found dead at a house was “beautiful” and “much loved” said her devastated family as a man was charged with murder.
Megan Hughes, 31, was found dead on Sunday after officers were called to a property in Windram Road, Chirnside, Berwickshire around 4.35am.
Her family has asked for privacy at this difficult time and paid tribute to the mum, writing: “Megan was a much loved mother and daughter. She was beautiful and caring. This has left a massive hole in the family who are all absolutely devastated.”
Corey Dryden, 31, appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday afternoon. Dryden, of Berwickshire, faces a single charge of murder. He made no plea during his behind-closed-doors hearing, where he was remanded in custody.
No future court dates have been set, but Dryden is expected to make his second appearance in connection with the case, which will also be in private, next week, reports Daily Record.
Detective Inspector Laura White said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Megan at this difficult time. We will continue to support them as the investigation continues.”
An initial statement from Police Scotland said: “A 31-year-old woman who died in Chirnside, Duns on Sunday, 9 February, 2025 has been named as Megan Hughes. Officers were called to a property in Windram Road around 4.35am. Megan’s family has asked for privacy.”
Tributes have poured in for victim on social media with one person writing on Facebook: “Absolutely heartbreaking, wishing the best to her children & family,” and another comment read: “Heartbreaking, Megan you were a beautiful young lady inside and out, my thoughts are with her family and friends.”
There were many similar messages with one person stating: “So pretty so young … Megan …. rest in peace … God bless your family and friends xx .. a life taken far far 2 soon,” and another said: “My deepest heartfelt condolences goes out to Megans family and friends at this very sad time.”
