A “much-loved” two-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive at a school nursery.
Several bouquets of flowers have been laid on the grass outside Parbold Douglas Church of England Academy, on Lancaster Lane, Parbold, along with handwritten messages, in memory of the toddler. Lancashire Police were called to the nursery at around 2.45pm on Friday, September 19, following reports a child had been found unresponsive. The boy was taken to hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and his loved ones are being supported by specialist officers, Lancashire Police said.

In a heartbreaking statement, the nursery said its staff were “distraught” and “devastated” following the death of the “special, much-loved” boy.
Tributes to the two-year-old have also been paid on social media with one person writing: “Devastating. Rest easy little angel. Thinking of his poor family and the staff at the nursery too.” Another comment read: “So sad. RIP little man and deepest sympathy to his family and nursery staff.”
A person also wrote: “So heartbreaking. No parent should ever have to go through this kind of pain. My deepest condolences to the family, may they find strength in this difficult time,” and a further message read: “Literally my worst nightmare. Poor little soul, and cannot even imagine what the family is going through… so unfair.”
A statement issued by the nursery read: “It is with a heavy heart that we share that a tragic incident occurred at Parbold Douglas Nursery on Friday 19th September. We are distraught to share that a special, much loved two-year-old child has died.
“We as a nursery and a wider-school family are devastated. Our main thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family and all those impacted by this extremely distressing loss.
“We urge everyone to respect the family’s right to privacy and that of the nursery and school. We will not be making any further comment at this time.”
Lancashire Police confirmed that despite the best efforts of emergency and medical personnel, the two-year-old could not be saved, reported the Liverpool Echo.
The full police statement said: “We were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2.43pm on 19th September following reports a child had become unresponsive at school.
“The child was taken to hospital where despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically died. Our thoughts are with the boy’s loved ones at this extremely distressing time.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course. The child’s family have asked for their privacy to be respected.”
